The diaper cream I trust, and the one I stopped using

There are a lot of diaper creams. Most of them work fine on a mild rash. The difference shows up when the rash is bad, and it shows up on the ingredient label before it shows up on your baby.

What I use: Triple Paste. Triple Paste

It’s the one I reach for every time, and the reason is the label. The active ingredient is zinc oxide — that’s what actually forms the barrier and heals the skin — and the rest of the list is short and boring in the best way: beeswax, oat extract, purified water. It’s free of the common irritants and it’s hypoallergenic, which matters more than any marketing word on the front of the tube.

It’s thick. It doesn’t rub in. That’s the point — it’s supposed to stay on the skin, not disappear into it. A rash that’s been stubborn for days usually turns around in one or two changes.

What I stopped using: the “clean” one.

I wanted to like it. The branding is clean, the price is fair, and it’s everywhere. It just didn’t work for us on anything past a mild rash, and when I actually sat down and read the two labels side by side, the difference was obvious. Longer ingredient list, less of the one ingredient that does the work.

That’s the whole method, honestly. Ignore the front of the tube. Flip it over. Find the active ingredient. Make sure the rest of the list is short enough that you could read it out loud to your pediatrician without stumbling.

I’m a mom and a former pediatric ICU nurse. What I write here is what we do at home — it isn’t medical advice, and it doesn’t replace your pediatrician.
